I have a 1996 N/A 850 wagon, decided to do the pcv system today. I had ordered the kit from IPD a week ago. First of all this was a major pain in the ***, The plastic tubing that comes off the oiltrap broke in 3 places, of course the kit doesn't come with it. I went to the local parts store and thankfully they had exactly what I needed. Project took 6 hours, 3 trips to parts store.
I still seem to have a small amount of smoke coming from the dipstick, and yes I cleaned out the wholes in the block that the oil trap hooks up to.
Anyone have any ideas?

 

Give everything time to work through and burn off. A lot of folks say it takes a couple thousand miles. Also, change the oil.

 

This just made me grin. Ya, its tough your first time but after that taking these engines apart is cake.
