If you go full throttle at cranking speed the computer knows to cut back fuel and it is a way to save yourself if you're "accidentally" been footing the throttle while trying to get it started. The engineers programmed it that way. But if it really flooded you'd need to pull the fuel pump relay or fuse or if it's past that, pull and replace the plugs after your cranked it over a bit to flush the fuel out.

Yes they will flood easily if you use the throttle while trying to start. When fuel injection first came out it was common to have a lot full of flooded cars that needed a battery charge, spark plug change and LOF as the gas had washed down past the rings into the oil.
We used to advise people to sit down, leave their feet outside the car and reach in and crank the vehicle over. They could do it physically or hopefully it drove home the point the computer didn't need their right foot on the gas pedal to start correctly like a carb.

 

Thanks for clarifying that. I'm a bit old school and really have never had an issue with a FI car flooding. Plenty of carburated ones and know exactly what to do with them.

 

Were about twenty flawless starts into it. Pretty sure it's a new record. Car has notably more oomph and seems to run quite a bit smoother. Tooth and a half off really does make quite a significant difference... It's been getting colder and have this silly "it's cold outside" red light on almost daily but car hasn't budged yet. Pretty pleased..

 

Winter is a wonderful season if you own a turbo car....just saying.
