question about swap
not sure if it has been done or not, i would assume it has been done though.
i can tell you tho that everything will bolt up fairly decently. what i would be most concerned about would be the ECU... not sure how well that will work out for you there.
i can do some more research and see what i can find for you.

I would prefer to replace the car instead of doing this swap. Having said that, Its not that its not possible to do it but its not viable/economical to do this. Also, its a lot of effort to replace the interior shifter assy, peddal assy and few other things besides ECU/TCU and some electronic fabrications.
You need to go over to volvospeed.com and talk to guys over there. Many many have done and I think there is a guy selling a kit for just the purpose of converting a turbo to a five speed. Volvo did not import and turbo 5 speeds to the USA. So converting, buying one from another country (i.e. Canada) or buying one that has been converted is the only way to get an 850 with a five speed.
Before I would covert personally I would just look for a 98 S70 T5M. My son has one and it's fast and fun to drive. Basically the same car as the 850 with the trim matching the exterior color instead of being grey. You can not get the 98 R with a five speed though and they have AWD. He has one of them too.
