Default Slight squeeling when I start up

Thre's a slight squeeling going on when I start the car ('95 850 GLT) when it's cold. As I pull out of the parking spot, it usually dies down, and with the first quarter-mile, it's completely gone.

Checked my power-steering fluid, it's topped-off and good.

Could it be from the alternator? Do they make funny noises when they are going out?

Maybe the serpentine belt? Never changed that. Is it difficult?

Can you get us a video?

A good tool for finding items like this is a hose that you can put to your ear and move the other end around in your engine compartment.

Sounds like a serpentine belt is the most likely culprit, but get that video for us just to make sure. I havent done one on my car yet, but the belt doesnt look that complex to change.

Is it possible to "tighten" the belt?

Yeah, but it involves removing it and putting a new one on. If you've never replaced it before, replace it.

Any good walkthroughs available for that kind of job?

Where would you recommend I get the part? FCPGroton? Or just a local parts shop?

There's tons of threads, just do a search. Here or at MVS and you'll have plenty of information.

I'd go with FCP - support the supporters, as it were. They have good prices for our Brick parts.

Man, you weren't kidding... that tensioner tool... I had it done in 15 minutes. Holy crap.

Totally worth the $29 tool... and now if it happens on the road... no problem, got the old belt in with the spare, and the tool too...

Not sure if the sound is completely gone yet... for various reasons I haven't been able to really listen to it when starting it when it's cold... if it's not phone calls when I get to the door, it's the parking authority reminding me that ticketing will begin in less than a minute... I should get a good listen to it tomorrow morning.
