Default Upgrading question

So, I have a regular 850 and Im very new to cars in general but Id like im learning and would like to know what should I add to get more power. Well, what I should ask is where should I start upgrading at? I dont have a turbo, is that a problem, would it have been easier if i had gotten one? thanks

Don't bother trying to increase the power on an N/A 850. It won't be worth the cost.

Yes, an 850R or T5 would be a lot easier to get extra power from.

There is nothing wrong with an N/A 850. Yes a turbo model would have been easier to upgrade, but there are items for regular 850's also. Check out www.ipdusa.com. IPD is one of the premier Volvo parts and upgrade sites.

You have an N/A. Meaning you have around 168 Hp or so. Also it means there is limited performance parts available to you in the aftermarket world. Also with the parts avaiable you wouldn't make much Hp to make a difference.

Sell your N/A and a buy a turbo model.

If your thinking of turboing your N/A the answer is yes you can but the true answer is again sell your N/A and buy a turbo model. Some items you would need to turbo your N/A would be but not limited to...

1. Turbo
2. Intercooler
3. Intercooler hardpipes
4. Couplers
5. T-bolt clamps
6. Downpipe
7. Catback system
8. Vaccum lines
9. Oil and or water lines
10. Major ECU tuning (Not just a regular ECU tune, I am talking dyno tuning)
11. Etc...

To do this right your looking at at least $3k-$8k in parts plus labor charges as well.

Sell your N/A and buy a turbo model. There are more parts in the aftermarker world for turboed models and you will see more gains with these parts in a turbo model.

Yes there are N/A parts out there but they are truly not worth it because you wont gain much power if any power.

1. Catback system, you may gain 5-10 Hp max.
2. Custom intake, you may gain 2-5 Hp max.
3. You can get an ECU tune and possibly gain 20 Hp max, but don't bet on it.
4. QBM Cam Timing Tool, don't use this unless you know about cam timing.

So even with these parts your just getting to about 200 Hp if you make it to there. With a turbo model your at least starting close to 200 Hp if not over 200 Hp. And with the parts available you can get very nice numbers. Here is a short list of aftermarket parts for turbo models.

1. Turbo upgrade
2. Downpipe upgrade
3. Catback upgrade
4. N/A cam upgrade (Yes the N/A cams is an upgrade to the turbo models)
5. Better ECU upgrades that will make more power then an N/A ECU upgrade.
6. Intercooler upgrade (FMIC's included, has to be custom made.)
7. Silicone vaccum line upgrade
8. Silicone turbo hoses upgrade
9. Intake upgrade (Short ram, BMC CDA, and then you can custom make intakes)
