Automatic transmission confusion.... Dextron or JWS 3309?33
Hi,
I am mightily confused by a conflict between the owner's manual and what I read online.
I have a 2001 S40 2.0T. I am pretty sure it has the 5 speed automatic transmission (the floor says: low, 3, 4, drive). Which what I read, and from matching with the mobil site ( http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/) I should use jws 3309.
It says her the 4 speed was replaced by the 5 speed in 2001
http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Overvie...-2001-S40.html
The owners manual says Dextron-Mercron
http://apps.volvocars.us/ownersdocs/...0_09.htm#pg122
This same document describes the transmission as a 4 speed.
What do I use? Do I have a 4 or 5 speed transmission??
I already have the mobil 9903 ATF. Should I use it?

I love this part of the owners manual
Power transmission
Automatic transmission: AW 50-50
4speed automatic electronically controlled gearbox comprising a hydraulic torque converter with a lockup function; planetary gear, integrated final drive.
Operation via a floor mounted gear selector lever. Drive shafts with symmetrical joint location. Overdrive.
Final drive ratio 2.76:1
Reduction ratios
1st gear 4.77:1
2nd gear 2.99:1
3rd gear 1.96:1
4th gear 1.32:1
5th gear 1.02:1
Reverse 3.23:1

The answer for your question is in threre:
The owners manual says Dextron-Mercron
http://apps.volvocars.us/ownersdocs/...0_09.htm#pg122
This same document describes the transmission as a 4 speed.
Seems that you got a wrong manual for your car.
