From what I have heard at least on 2005+ S40's you cant swap. I would say that you could have another one similar installed should your kick the bucket but then comes the process of updating the software etc. I'm not sure if anyone ever attenpted that on here.

I have a 2005 S40 single CD and stuck with an FM transmitter since there are no solutions out there for me to get an AUX or iPod input.

That year S40? If it is a pre-2004.5 then you have plenty of options. If later than...

These may help inspire or...not.

Swedespeed Forums - I've finally integrated iPod AND XM (still using FM Modulation though)
Swedespeed Forums - S40 Carpc

I have a 2001... what are some options for upgrading my stock FM/AM tape only radio?

some folks have installed aftermarket double DIN units but may be problematic. You can fit just about any single DIM head unit in the opening and get a single DIN pocket to fill in the rest. Volvo actually makes a pocket that works perfect (part number 30613741 for the Box (aka pocket with the rubber mat)).

Do you have the SC-xxx or HU-xxx head unit? They use different connectors.

For the HU-xxx: Metra 70-9221 and Metra 40-VL10 for the antenna.
I don't recall the number for the SC-xxx.

Here is one of my setups with an Alpine Cassette head unit and the Volvo pocket.

Another use of an FM Modulator but hard wired into the antennae. Read the response by PaulH413 a couple posts down.

The model number of the head unit should be stamped on the front. I just search the internet for a good deal. For the pocket, you might try VolvoWholesaleParts.com sells Genuine Volvo Parts
