Default Rear shock change? How involved?

Hello everyone,.. FNG on this board.
I drive an 97 850R, Wife drives the 01 S40...
The S40 needs new rear shocks..they look like coil overs.
How hard are they to change out?
Thanks,
Stan

Pretty easy. You will want a spring compressor. It doesn't have to be too fancy as the springs are not under a lot of pressure. You will also have to remove the interior panels in the trunk which is no big deal. You might want to start spraying the exposed bolts with penetrating oil (WD-40) as they are likely rusty. When you change them, jack up the entire back (both tires off the ground). Otherwise the sway bar will cause you grief. That is all I can think of for now.

What shocks are you planning to install. I had installed Koni yellows all around on my "02 S40 and they were great. I've heard good things about Bilsteins too.

Default Thanks

Stan,
Wow, another Volvo driving Stan!
Thanks for the reply. I figured it would not be that involved. Thanks on the tips of spraying the external bolts down with penetrating oil for a good pre-soak and the sway bar.
Since it is my wifes car.., and I have not heard too many good things about the Bilstein touring shocks from other forums..I plan on using the OEM Sachs/Boge rear shocks. She does not drive like I do and would not enjoy the Konis like I would.., Koni money gets saved to be used to buy Konis for the 850R...Plus I just bought her a new set of Bridgestones!!
I like the little S40 alot, I just wish there were more performance parts for it.
How do you like the RIP kit for it? I bought one for the 850 but have not installed it yet.
Thanks,
Stan

+1 on the coffee. Honestly, I don't know how I make it to work before I have my first cup.
