P0117 = Engine coolant temperature sensor, signal too low.

To answer whether to do the thermostat at the same time, how many miles on the car? Has the t-stat been replaced before?

I would start with thermostat, that is cheapest. Follow the upper radiator hose to where it goes into the block on the top, front, passenger side of the engine. That housing has the thermostat and sender. Remove two torx bolts from the housing and lift up. Thermostat is in there. Replace ring gasket also, should come with thermostat.
I recommend the higher temp, 92 degrees. Also, when installing new one, make sure the weep hole is toward the front of the vehicle.
The temp sender is screwed in the same housing underneath the radiator hose. Just unscrew and unhook from wire harness.
I say try thermostat first because I am cheap. Thermostat=$10, sender=$55.
