'02 S60 2.4T Vibration Problem
I have been experiencing vibration problems lately. It starts to become very noticeable staring at 50mph. Just to give a little history, the car has 67K miles. I took the car to an independent volvo auto shop at the 60K service. They indicated that the front hub bearings needed replacement. They also did a 4 wheel alignment. I did not do the bearings because I wanted a second opinion. So, around 65K I took the car to a Volvo dealer and they said the front bearingswere perfectly fine. The said the reason for the vibration is that the tires are shot with major outer wear on the fronts, which have about 27K miles on them. They also said the rears are cupping and those only have 10K miles on them.
The tires on the front with 27K miles were purchased as a set of 4. I already had to replace two of them because of quick wear and that is why the rears only have 10K miles.
I have been religiously rotating the tires and having the alignment done so I am trying to figure out why the tires are going bad. They are Falken Ziex 512's. I'm assuming that new tires will cure the vibrating, but I'd like to figure out what is causing the tires to wear so quickly. For now I have an almost brand new Pirelli in the garage, so I might just buy another Pirelli and put those on the front and leave the Falkens on the back. But I definitely need to replace the Falkens on the front because of the major outer wear and little tread.
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks, Lee
