Default 2002 S60 - Turn signal issue

My car told me that my right front turn signal bulb was burned out. Checked it and sure enough, the bulb wasn't blinking.

So I went to parts store and got an 1157A, took out the old bulb (yep, the filament was broken), put the new one in. Odd thing is that the light blinks but the car keeps telling me that the bulb is burned out.

Any thoughts?

Thanks. I think that I have a spare in the garage. I'll give that a shot.

If the socket is ok or does not fix the issue it may be the bulb. Most bulb warning systems are based on resistance and I have seen bulb warnings set by something as simple as putting in a brass base bulb when the original was a silver coloured one. Or slight differences in the wattage ratings of bulbs, any of the European bulbs I have seen are silver bases and have wattage ratings on them.

I had thought about the bulb being an issue as well. Before I switch out the socket, I'm going to stop at an auto parts store and get a different brand of bulb. That way, if the new socket doesn't fix it, I can try the new bulb right away.

I noticed that. I also noticed that FCPEuro offers an alternative at 1/8 the price. Also comes with a new bulb. Any idea if these work?

Rummaging through my box of bulbs, I did find one that I took out of my V70 when I replaced both turn signals and only one was dead. Looks like an original Volvo bulb. Installed it and still have the blinker blinking but the car thinking that the bulb is burned out.

The saga continues . . . .

I ordered the cheap sockets. Well, that was a mistake. Yesterday wasn't too bad so I figured that I'd change out my socket.

I'd ordered two so that I'd have a spare in case I needed one (I'm still pretty sure that I have one from my V70 in my garage). So I went out with socket #1. Fit my hand into the tiny space and got the old one out. Plugged the new socket in and turned on the turn signal. It worked!!!

So then I attempted to put it in place. While I was fiddling with it, it fell apart. Yep, part A separated from part B. So off I went to get the extra. This one would NOT seat. I couldn't turn it to lock it in place. So I thought maybe the rubber gasket is too fat and switched it for the original gasket. Still no joy.

So now I get to order another more expensive socket. Unless I can find that one that I'm sure that I have.

After nearly a month, the issue is resolved. I ordered a brand new Volvo branded socket from FCP. It went right in and my turn signal works properly.
