Help! 01 S60 2.4: Weird noise in lower gears.
Hello, guys!
I have a problem with my 01 S60 2.4, and I hope some of you could help me find a solution for it.
The car now has about 98,500 miles and everything works perfectly, except for one.
The car makes a growling and rattling noise at start-up when it has been sit for a while.
If the car is warm, the noise is reduced.
On the road, the noise comes out at around 1.8k rpm in lower gears.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Yes, it does show up when I rev it in park.
The noise is loudest (around 1.5k rpm)when I turn on the car for the first time in the morning.
Btw, thanks for the quick response!

If that is the cause, when I get an oil change at the dealership and ask them to replace the bad oil pan o-rings, the noise will go away, correct?
What are the lifters?
Thanks.

If that is the problem and they replace the o-rings yes the noise will go away if it is indeed the lifters.
The lifters go between the Camshaft and Valves on the head.

Car is going into the dealership for an oil change tomorrow morning.
Do they usually replace the o-rings during each oil change, or will I have to ask them to do the job?
