Exclamation passanger SIPS short - help!

Hey everyone, i need some help with an airbag issue -

so i had a friend of mine wire in a police scanner i have yesterday (i work in Emergency Services) in my s60 that i had pulled out of my old Jeep. He has a lot of experience with radios and wiring jobs, but about an hour after he finished the job i got an urgent airbag service warning. My friend with a diagnostic computer is out of town and i didn't want to leave it unchecked for long so i took it by the local Volvo dealer today (shelled out their huge diagnostic fee) and they told me the passenger SIPS is shorted out, and they wanted almost $1300 for parts and labor which is way more than i wanted to pay. So before i can move on anything else i have to replace the airbag. I know it's still gonna be a pricey fix, but does anyone have any recommendations for shops in the NY tri-state area that i could take it to if i found an airbag online of from a salvage yard?

I talked to my friend who did the scanner install today, and he said that where he pulled power from is nowhere near the fuses for the airbags and that the short shouldn't be related to the install. What do you guys think the chances are that it's just a coincidence? He basically has a small side business doing these kind of wiring jobs so i trust him at his word, but it's still a little strange. I also talked to the Volvo tech who did the diagnostic and told him about the install and he didn't seem to think it was related either and that it was probably a pinched wire in the harness for the airbag that developed from moving the seat back and forth over the years.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would take a look over at http://forums.swedespeed.com/forumdi...282001-2010%29 and post there. Those forums are full of some real experts in trouble shooting issues like this. I would always take what the stealership say with a grain of salt.Remember they are always looking to do the most expensive fix for every problem. That is how they make there $$. GL

hehe referring to swedespeed already MYS6T? That's where I normally hang but these guys are great over here and VS as well.

Anyways, what message exactly did you receive in the information window?

Did the clear the codes at the dealer?

If it just an SRS Service Urgent your friend probably disconnected something without the battery disconnected first and got the usual airbag code to trip. This is quite different than an actual air bag system failure and much easier/cheaper to repair. I'd be willing to bet the scanner install is related, I mean what are the odds it's just a coincidence?
