Default Mechanical or Hydraulic Tensioner

On my 98 S70 T5, I am not sure which tensioner I have. My local volvo mechanic said I have to open up the cover and look, I think he wants me to buy the parts from him..

Is there a way to know which tensioner I have without opening the cover???

Default RE: Mechanical or Hydraulic Tensioner

I just purchased a new timing belt and tensioner. From what I found most Volvo Parts sites list the mechanical and hydraulic tensioner by the VIN #. At a specific VIN # they started using the mechanical tensioner. www.VolvoPartsDirect.com lists their tensioners by the change in VIN#.

if you are referring to timing belt tensioner check the number on your engine.... it should be on the cover on the timing area

fcpgroton goves the part number and the different engine number on the type
