Re: When Do Engine Codes Reset?
Thanks. Both service centers told me I had to wait for the codes to reset on their own.I wish they'd told me they could force the reset themselves. I've driven nearly 900 highway miles and100 city miles since the last service appointment; how much longer could it take for the EVAP code to reset?
As for the EGR, my S70 isnot a turbo model.Maybe that's a standard part of the inspection report, rather than a sign my car has a flawed monitor? It's always passed emissions inspections before, though usually only after it was serviced for that reason.

Just deleting the codes will not help with the emission standards to pass. That just clears stored codes from memory, therefore not allowing a CEL light to come on. But the systems that are faulty, still have to go throw a diagnostic period, via the ECU. Certain systems require different criteria to show complete. I know on my vehicle, the EVAP took a loooonngg time. It has several different scenerios to initiate and detect possible problems, example: Checking system pressure for leaks, with under 3/4 tank of gas, with 1/2 tank and so on. It requires 5-10 mins of idle time, followed by 15-20 mins of highway time, followed by 10 mins of idle again. And so on and so on, so it can take a daily driver a long time to meet alot of the reset criteria to allow ECU to show a complete on emissions computer read out. I hope this clears it up a little for you. Also if its non turbo the guy needs to turn that off in the emissions computer, so it doesnt even check for an EGR, that can make you fail too! Just an FYI.
Very true, clearing the codes simply clears them, doesn't fix the problem it hasn't been repaired properly. I have about 450 miles since clearing the code and my S70 is still not ready for an inspection, as a systems are not clear.
Tried to get it inspected again @ 600 + miles after clearing the code. 5 systems are still not ready said the inspector. He also said that the dealership should know a sequence that will force it to speed up.
I called two dealership, one in Richardson and another in Austin, Texas, they both asked me to bring it in, because there's no such thing and thats there machine is more sensitive and could possibly pick up a code that my scanner isn't.
Please Advise

I have a '98 S70 with Turbo...but according to the Chilton manual for 850/S70/C70/V70I believe, you can just disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute and it'll reset. I did it to mine and it worked perfectly.
