Default XC40 Power Steering Failure warning

Ok tried the search function and found nothing. Tried the owner manual(s) found nothing.

2019 XC40R Design @38k miles. Recently with the onset of colder weather after the car has sat in the garage for a few days on starting I get the "Power Steering Failure Stop Safely" warning on the speedo display. It goes away within a few seconds after start and the power steer system never acts like there is a problem. The warning has never come on while driving.

Advice???

Same issue, get this random warning, sometimes its appears, sometimes it does not, changed the secondary battery and reset the codes it goes away for a week or two and returns but the issue is, its out second car so it won't be used much. This appears to be more a software issue than a mechanical fault but the fault is nothing to do with the power steering which is fine it's the second battery. Volvo need to sort this out.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know I'm not out here alone with this problem.

I'm currently, changing the main battery and the voltage is low, will see how that goes and if that is affecting it but Volvo need to sort this out as its not a fault with the power steering just the power to it.

Did you get a chance to change the main battery? If so did that make any difference with this issue?

Yes, sorry. That fixed it. Replaced the main battery and the auxiliary battery and reset the error codes and it's now fixed. I don't know if had I just replaced the main battery if that would have just fixed it because I replaced the auxiliary one first but try the main first and if it doesn't fix it then replace the auxiliary. Thanks

Soooo been putting up with the occasional power steering warning since the original post back on 1-21-25. A little over a month ago while backing the car out of the garage the dash light up with every warning light, bell and whistles then the engine died. Tried to restart and it quickly killed the battery. The battery voltage was low after this so put a battery maintainer on it for the day. Drove it another 30 days with no problems then it duplicated the previous. Both times the car restarted with my NOCO jumper box. Put a new main battery in last week, which btw is a pain in the azz and absolutely no further problems including no power steering failure warnings. My suggestion: if you are getting the power steering failure warning your main battery is probably trying to tell you something. it is saying "Change me!"
