2001 xc70 -- flat tire leads to transmission trouble?

2001 xc70 -- flat tire leads to transmission trouble?
2001 xc70. 91k miles. new transmission at 78k miles (thank you, warranty).
last week i got a flat at night with a screaming 2 yr old in the back. limped home on the flat (less than a mile) -- I know, very bad for the car -- and had it towed the next day.
4 new tires, alignment, new control arms and bushings and new brakes later, I am now having a shifting problem. The car does fine until I get to a hill and urge it up (which normally shifts the car down a gear). At lower speed, it should shift to 2nd, but this AM it stayed in 3rd and lugged down.
Did my drive home on a flat wreck my transmission? is there a repair option here or am I going to have to replace the transmission? (warranty expired in December of last year).
Help.
