Hi guys hoping you can help with the mystery. My wife and I have owned an xc90 2007 for almost 6 years. Bought used ( lease return) and every since we got it, I noticed a cracking noise when braking at a stop sign or accelerating. The main components of the front end have been replaced once or twice. Lower control arms, axles ( under warranty) some special bolts that stretched but nothing works. I now have the pleasure of driving the vehicle daily and it is driving me nuts not knowing. I hate to take it back to the mechanic because I always get suckered into replacing something in the hopes it will fix the issue. I was just reading about lubricating the axle splines??? Is that it? Any suggestions? Any good mechanics in Miami?

 

Have the subframe bushings been replaced?

 

Probably don't need to replace the subframe bushings, just lube them. There is also a bulletin for some plastic washers to install between the subframe and the car.

 

Any particular way to lube them? What king of grease to use?

 

Remove the bolt, clean and lube the washer and bushing. Install the plastic washer from the bulletin between the bushing and metal washer. Lube with white lithium grease or bearing grease... Whatever you have
