Default high mount stop lamp

Hi all- I just bought a 2005 V70 wagon and there were no error messages about stop lamps when I bought it. Now, I have a "check stop lamp" message. Both left and right are ok. On the high mount center, none of the bulbs light up. Is it a single unit that can fail or is it a series of bulbs. Also, any advice on how to check if it is a relay or switch and not the lamps themselves?
Thanks.

The CHMSL may be LEDs. First check the fuses in the rear. In my 2004 there are two fuses labeled "brake lights", #3 15A and #14 7.5A. If I had to guess, I would say #14 would be the CHMSL. Check your rear fuse panel for such a fuse.

Check the wiring harness on the left side of the tailgate. A cut wire is the only time ive ever seen the center brake light go out
