Newbie needs help with purchase
Hi:
I am a new member looking to buy a used Volvo for my granddaughter. The car we have in mind is a 2002 V70 XC AWD, the 5 cyl engine. The car has about 100,000 miles and seems to be in good shape. Is there anything we should look at in particular?
Body looks good, just a small rust spot where the cladding meets the door sill.
AC blows cold and all electrics seem to work.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Doug

I would be worried about the transmission at that point. Older V/XC 70s had a problem with them. Also make sure the timing belt has been done. You can always take it to a dealer to get a pre purchase inspection done on it. You just have to pay an hour labor and they'll look it over for you. I look over pre purchase inspections all of the time, most of the time people think the car is in good condition but find out that it isn't worth the money.
Thanks for the help Damien360. I figured the timing belt had not been done so I've factored that into my decision. But unaware of the tranny issues. Guy wants $4000 for the car. Seems reasonable but I suppose the inspection will tell me more.
Thanks again, Doug

Thank you Kiss4aFrog. I bought the car and in the process of having the inspection required to get it on the road. My granddaughter is at med school and living in Ontario, the AWD and safety reputation are we hope, just what the doctor ordered. Pun intended.
Thanks Doug
Thanks Doug
