lurching when changing gears
Hello all,
2006 xc70 with 79.5k miles, transmission started a slight delay in changing gears from reverse to drive, experienced while parking after a 30 minute drive to or from work.
This does not occur when driving a short distance, i am guessing this happens when the tranny warms up??
Now there is a slight "lurch/jump" of sorts, felt just before it actually changes gears that seems to be increasing
Volvo at my request last month when I was concerned the tranny fluid might need changing/checking when i was told by a mechanic friend that at 80K they start to go and have a reputation for this, assuming they drained, maybe flushed the oil and re-filled it. think it was $300- 400
PLEASE someone tell me that I do NOT need a new tranny . . . ?
Appreciate the replies , thanks

lovely! kinda thinking same . . do you think it is worth a further look maybe ? inside, is that how they do it?? by either volvo or a tranny specialist
can you ballpark guestimate for volvo to rebuild or new ??
i am beginning to think this car was a lemon from the get-go in 2006 . . . i think it sat around idle on the dealer lot most of the year, could this affect anything?
thanks for replying much appreciated
I am gonna see what if any interest here is posting it for sale on craigslist

The transmission needs to be flushed and the fluid replaced. You can use Mobil 1 JWS 3309. It's the same fluid that Volvo sells because Mobil is the only manufacturer in North America but it's 1/3rd the price. It's basically long life Dextron with additional additives to reduce oxidation and foaming. You'll need about 7-8 quarts. The transmission on the XC70 is a tough unit and almost indestructible. Change fluid every 36,000 mi or three years.
