What did you do to your car today?
I'm taking the trans down so I can finally replace the chipped flexplate the car had when I bought it. I've had a brand new factory one (with the bolts) in the shed since the winter, but I wanted to wait until it was warmer outside to do this. Not fun, but I knew it had to be done at some point.
Well....after recovering from M.S. now for almost....four months? Six since diagnosis, 4 since full medication regime started, I just did my right front brake pads on my '93 960 wagon.
For me, well I should say for you, that's about the equivalent to climbing K2. I'd say Everest, but that will be when I replace the rotors too.
It was like running a marathon but I did it. I had to carry one tool up from the basement, well the floor jack, then lug wrench etc. at a time. Stop, sweat and hyper-ventilate...relax, and get back to it. Took me almost 2 hours. 20 years ago, would've taken me at max 20-30 minuets.
I am superman. I am so jacked you have no idea, just to be able to do something as simple as this again, when in late January I was paralyzed on the right side and they were positive it was a cancerous lesion, not M.S.....well it was M.S. not cancer, I'm alive, and now I won't crash because my brakes a failing!!!
That's what I did today...now I'm going to lay down......zzzzzzz....when I wake up....well, when my Son wakes up, I'll get back up, and maybe in another couple of days tackle the other wheel.

I don't even want to start to think about how much all of this would have cost if I would have had it done somewhere... May upwards of $2k?
Two Mondays Ago:
Two Mondays Ago:

Replaced the tiny little bulbs that back-light the trip computer switch. Thus ending a month-long obsessive compulsion to find and replace blown bulbs that included: replacing the bulb that lights up PRND4321 at the gearshift, the bulb behind the cigarette lighter, all three bulbs that back-light the climate control *****, and the three bulbs that back-light the headlight switch.
We've had this car for more than three years, and I think now is the first time its been possible to drive at night without turning on the map lights to adjust the controls (or put the car in gear for that matter).

Cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced the air filter. Replaced the Fuel filter, which was probably fine but hadbeen rattling around a lot and nearly fallen off, because the plastic strap holding it on broke. o_O Also, took it for a bit of an Italian tune-up and managed to get the CEL (P0420) to shut off.

Yesterday I replaced the radiator and heater control valve. I couldn't get to the heater hoses. :-(
Today, I had the transmission flushed and services (100K) and siliconed the rubber hose to the HCV so it will not whistle any longer. Yes, I was careful that the silicone is on the outside of the hose so as to not clog the function of the valve.
In the next week or two, I'm driving it from TX to SC so my son has a car while he is at college. I'm going to miss this car.

I removed it and sprayed the sensor and wire mesh with CRC MAF sensor cleaning spray from the parts store. Then let it air dry for about 5 minutes and re-installed it.
Finally got around to putting the engine splash guard back on my wife's v40.
Repeated encounters with parking blocks, curbs and other similar impediments to her forward (followed shortly by backward) progress... are making it tricky for me to find viable attachment points.

Changed the spark plugs, the PO had put NGK crappy plugs in. It's back to genuine Volvo ones now.
While I had the plastic cover off the top of the motor I thought I would get rid of the oil, and in the process accidentally poured half a litre of water directly into the turbocharger, as I had the intercooler pipe off.
Cursed, swore, and spent the next two hours with rags and a hair dryer drying out the turbo.
So in summary, spent 3 hours changing the spark plugs on my car :P

So the wife got a new car, 2011 Infiniti G37 sedan. My daughter just got her learners permit, oh........ So she is inheriting the wife's 2000 S70, 165,000 miles. So I figure I need to go over a semi neglected car. It hit me, these cars are a great starter car for teens. Yesterday I polished the headlight lenses, rubbed out most of an abrasion from the front bumper. Prepped and painted temporary generic white paint on the rear bumper abrasion. I'll find the match at a later date. Changed the long overdue plugs with Autolite Platinums. Power washed the engine area, rubbed out a few places. Today I start to change over the trans oil, rotate the tires and maybe clean and treat the leather.
Do you think this is a deal for a handy guy?
