My earlier comment: "I'm confident that if I put the old CPS back on it would start."

I went out just now to do just that, but thought to crank it over before I started just to see....
It cranked an ran just fine just now. So back to chasing gremlins...
I will say that when I look up the symptoms I'm having, one of the first things the guide mentions is the coolant temperature sensor. So maybe I'll try that next. Jeez...

So, the new CPS was bad? It should have started just fine with it too...

Obviously, if the hoses have a greasy or oily film on them that would permit current through ground to the clamps. Just a thought.

You reached a completely different conclusion than I did. I took it to mean it isn't eh CPS after all. Isn't that the most logical conclusion?
I've also since ruled out the fuel pump relay or pump.
