Default Alternator Tensioner Bolt?

My alternator tensioner bolt is just gone, where do I get a new one? I have a 1990 Volvo 740 GL.

Wrecking yard is best... if not, go to ebay, lots of cheap used B230 stuff, the bolt is very common... Volvo dealers still sell them I believe, not expensive.

you can try searching on a dealer parts web store and see if they show a part number, then google it for suppliers/prices.

Wait! You can make one from metric threaded rod from the hardware store. That is what I did, I think it was M6x1.0 and 80mm long. I bought a nut and welded it onto the end. If you don't have a welder, double-nut it with thread lock. Everything cost me about $2 at my local hardware store. I can take a picture of it tomorrow if you'd like.

It’s still available from the dealer. I got one from the local dealer recently and it wasn’t expensive at all

If you don't have a welder and prefer not to invest in one, you can braze it with a MAPP-gas torch.
Before applying heat to galvanized parts, be sure to provide adequate ventilation.

fyi, true MAPP gas no longer exists. the only factory that made it shut down years ago because it wasn't economical.
