Exclamation In need of serious help

Like the title says, I need some serious help. Trying to remove the crank position sensor on my grandsons 1990 240 DL that we are fixing up for his first car. The sensor definitely needs replacing as the wiring has been chewed apart sometime in the past by a mouse/rat/something.

Anyway, we got the 10mm bolt out, but for the life of us we cannot get the sensor free from the motor. I have tried tugging on it, wiggling it, tapping on it and prying on it as best I can (not much room to work in there). But it seems almost welded in place.

How can I get it out? I really need some help here. Many thanks

Psaboic,I have no experience with the redblock's CPS, but I did just go through this with my son's Ram truck. The engine had overheated, and partially melted the plastic CPS. Pretty common, I understand...maybe this is what happened to your son's. Tried all the usual things, including PB Blaster overnight. Finally it broke off near the flat mounting surface and came out, leaving the outer part of the plastic stuck in the block. I used a lag bolt as an EZ out and it came right out.

It could only be melted or rusted in place. So use combination of tools, lube, heat and muscle, what else is there?

Hi,
Sorry to year about your woes and I hope the last month has brought some good news. I live in southern RI and also have a '79 242. I know I'm not in your backyard but my mechanic is awesome. It's a small shop and he's very clever, reasonable and has worked on my car extensively (also a K-Jet). If you need me to put you in touch with him let me know.
Good luck.
Greg
