Volvo 740 ignition switch question
I've been tuning up the wagon today and decided to swap out my ignition switch "mine is getting a little on the worn side" I found a nice clean one at a pnp and it doesn't allow the car to catch and run, the dash indicators light up fine, aux system works, headlights fine but the starter engages and rotates the motor but doesn't fire. i put the old switch back in and car starts as usual. I check with a ohm meter and all switches "when activated"are 0 ohms. then i take a close examination of the switches and my old switch has a number of 828120 and the pnp part is a 828100, both have 10 pins on them, what is the difference? is a 828120 a special "Regina switch"?
i looked up the ignition switches for various 740/940 years and they were all 9447805 regardless of bosch NT, vs turbo, vs Regina.
using my 92 as a typical year... going clockwise from the gap, the pins are labeled P, X, X, 50, S, 15R, 30, 15L, 15L, and 30.
both pins 30 are red wires from the battery
P has no connection
both pins X are black wires
pin 50 is a pink wire to the starter
pin S is a yellow-white wire
pin 15R is a blue-red wire
pin 15L are both blue-yellow wires.
non-connected pin P has power with no key, or key in 0(off) or I (accessory)
pin S has power if the key is inserted and in any position
both pin X's have power in I (accessory) and II (run) but not III (start) (radio, etc)
pins 15L have power in II (run) only (headlights, etc)
pin 15R has power in II (run) and III (start) (engine, etc).
pin 50 is the starter circuit, power in III (start) only.
