Default Check vs service

So i have a question, im going to be getting my cars inspection today, and i have a service engine light on the dash for two - three minutes after i start the car, whats the difference between service and check engine lights??

should i be worried?

ive searched on google and cant seem to find anything explaining the difference between the two lights.

Service is just a clock. It comes on 10,000 miles after it was last reset, to get you to visit the dealer. It is no indication of any problem at all, just a timer.

Its a reminder for maintenance....Service your Engine. The small print is change your oil.

Check engine is a problem such as a misfire, lean or rich condition, etc...

What state are you in? Cali will be fine.

You can reset that yourself you know.

The light will come on:
Every 5,000 miles
Or 500 hours of the motor running
Or 6 months.

So update, i passed the emissions, they ended up having to use the sniffer, and the tech nearly had a fit cause he could not get the car to stay at 2500 rpm xD but it passed no problem!
