Driver's side window on 850 smashed out last night...
Anyone point me to a write up on replacing my driver's side window? I'm a bit too depressed to surf around looking right now. I'd really appreciate it. Some crack head smashed my window out sometime after midnight last night. They didn't even bother to take anything inside. Just broke the window. I'm planning to grab a used window from the junk yard if I can, and install it myself. Thanks again.
I had the rear windscreen on the 850 Wagon smashed Saturday night, I feel for you buddy.
To change the window you remove the door trim, then remove the black sqare that is glued on near the top of the door in the middle.
Lower the window slightly until you see the rollers. Remove the clip on each roller, and pull the arm out of each roller. Once you do this the window will come out of the top of the door.
This is the basic idea of how to remove the window.

boxpin, Brick850 Kiss4aFrog... Mission accomplished for about $35 (US). Thanks!
Below is a (text only) write up for others for future reference.
VOLVO 850 FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW REMOVAL/INSTALL (SHOULD WORK FOR PASSENGER'S SIDE TOO)
HOW FRONT WINDOWS ARE RAISED AND LOWERED
Your front windows are raised and lowered via two metal scissor arms driven by a motor. The two ends of the scissor arms attach to two metal clamps. The metal clamps grip the bottom of your window. You need to detach the scissor arms from the metal clamps if you are removing the window. You need to attach the scissor arms to the metal clamps if you are installing a window. It is very simple. But there are a few things you need to do in order to see and work with the metal clamps.
A) REMOVING BROKEN WINDOW (IF CAR HAS POWER)
1. Remove the 4 torx (star) screws from the bottom of door panel
2. Remove leathery horizontal trim on door panel above door latch. It should just pop off unless a previous owner glued it on.
3. Remove 2 large screws that were hidden behind trim.
4. Pop off Speaker cover and remove 6 screws holding speaker in. The bottom right screw is long.
5. Unplug speaker wire and remove speaker.
6. Remove entire door panel by lifting up.
7. Remove 2 long pieces of rubber trim that run horizontally along bottom of window frame (where your elbow rests on window frame). They just pop off.
8. Remove any black rubber square glued to door near middle of door (it hides a hole you need to see into).
9. Raise or lower window (or broken window) until the metal clamps holding base of window are visible through holes in door.
10. Remove the 2 metal clips from the 2 plastic 'rollers' that are seated in the 2 metal clamps.
11. Pull ends of the 2 metal scissor arms off of the 2 plastic rollers. The arms should just pop off.
12. Slide window (or what is left of window) up and out top of door frame.
B) REMOVING WINDOW FROM SALVAGE YARD CAR (IF CAR DOES NOT HAVE POWER)
Procedure is same as above except that you also need to remove the window motor and plate that secures it to the door. You will probably need to remove these in order to see, and get to, the metal clamps because you will not have power to raise or lower the window to just the right level where you can easily deal with the clamps through the door holes provided for this operation.
C) INSTALLING NEW (OR USED) WINDOW
Procedure is same as steps in A. but in reverse.
