Since I have an automatic (for now), sometimes when I'm driving I pretend that it's stick and I do all the foot motions and pretend to be moving the shifter around....

....I even make noises sometimes.

I do actually have a question now. Probably asked a million times but could this swap be done on a 1998 S70 GLT?

I'm pretty sure it can be. I don't think it's a matter of the transmission being able to swap over, which I'm also certain it does, it's how the speedometer works. In 94/95 there's a speed sensor on the casing, in 96/97 they changed to the ABS module. I'm guessing that you could probably throw an M56H into a 98.

Yeah, lucky for you post-95 guys who can have the M56H. They came with metal shift forks and a more desirable gear ratio in 1st and 2nd, and just generally stronger. Although what tech has in his is the 94/95 M56L which is holding up just fine so far.

It's pretty simple. Basically you just need a donor car that is manual, and then a clutch kit and associated seals, all in all it's usually about 1500 to do.

Not bad. So i just need to find the appropriate donor car. Where would I find tranny information? I assume I could grab a 850 tranny right?

Well, if the M56H is a direct swap over to your car, you just need a 96/97 850 donor car that is manual. It won't be turbo, since they didn't bring any manual turbos to the states, assuming you live in the US.

I don't know what you mean by tranny information.

Ok, I get it now. I know the 98 S70's have the M56H's, there's a guy on VS selling his M56H out of his 99 S70 but that's just the transmission, which is only like half of what you need for a swap. Like I said before, the transmission will most likely fit, it's just making sure the wiring and electronics are still the same. You could try to find a manual S70, but there are few of those and they would probably cost more.

It will not be bad at all if you find a donor car.
There is also a few guys on Volvospeed selling everything you need for the swap.

Yeah, manual swap kits pop up from time to time on VS. Miscellaneous parts as well that if you look hard enough, probably long enough too, you could find everything.
