For a while I was wondering what might be the cause of clanging noise when turning wheels. The noise was there even stationary.
I checked the steering and took out the left rubber dust boot to see if the inner tie rod ball joint was gone bad. But I noticed that there were 3-4 mm gap between the rack and the housing. The cab was so big that I thought that maybe some sealing or spacer ring is missing. Or can it really wear or damage such way? Is this common failure?

 

I think I got this already. I found a 17mm nut under the steering gear. I tightened it a bit and the play was gone!
