Default replace alternator

i cant tell if its the alternator making this humming/squealing noise but its coming from that area. its most noticeable when applying gas at a standstill or when shifting through the first 2 gears it stops after some speed is gained. when i turn the key to off the battery light flashes for an instant. when accessories are turned on the headlights dim a bit, it obvious the battery does not hold a charge that long, like if i left the lights on for 5 min id need a jump. when i disconnect the battery after started (i heard this was bad to do after i did it) she keeps on running. the battery is also undersized but dont know if any of this would cause the alternator to squeal. please point me in the right direction almost at stage 0 cant seem to get there something else allways crops up to bite me.

What is the voltage with the car running?
Remove the serp. belt and make sure it is nothing in the timing belt area.

Check your voltage at the battery when the car is running. If it looks good, then do what Tech said and remove the serp. belt and see if you can still hear a noise. If you can, turn off the car and take a look at your timing belt.

everything looks good so i took it to a real mechanic he heard the whining and poked around with a stethoscope and said he believes its the power steering pump and the alternator is fine. this goes on the backburner and onto a squeaky dash i found a complete dash for 100.00

everyones has a different idea as to what part is failing no two sources agree. i believe after more poking around the belt accessory tensioner is the culprit producing this whining sound. obviously i just don't want to jump in and replace it so im thinking of a way to test it. im 90% sure
