Hey everyone, I have a 1996 Volvo 850R, and recently I've noticed that sometimes when the engine is warmed up, there is a strange sound coming from the drivers side of the engine. From the outside, near the left wheel well, and through the grill, you can slightly hear it. The sound reminds me of a helicopter (lol). The engine has 92,000 miles and has enough oil. It does burn a bit of oil, and sometimes smokes on idle. However, I'm pretty sure that's the ptc valve or one of the pcv hoses that may be clogged. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I can't make it out. Buy a mechanic's stethoscope to isolate the source.

 

l think that could be the fuel injector making that sound.it sounds like it. thats how it sounds.l might be wrong.

 

Yeah, It kind of sounds like it's coming from an injector.

 

My vote is on injector as well...

 

Sounds like an exhaust manifold leak to me.

 

I agree with rspi. I hear it, sort of a warbally sound. Its not high enough pitched to be an injector. I think the best thing here is take VTBricked's advice and us a length of hose and track it down.
