btw, and for what its worth, the pulsair 94/95 940's cars are B230FD engines.

and I dig back into my library of greenbooks, and pull up TP-3904202, 1994 940 Wiring Diagrams (this is one of several variations), and whoa, it has DIFFERENT RELAYS than the others, WTF. I swear I looked at every one of these before,b ut hoookay.

no dual relay in position E like EVERY OTHER B230Fx engine. a single relay 2/23 in position M thats just the fuel pump, and not the EFI power, WTF. This relay is in the row closest to the fuses, 2nd from the right. wow. and a seperate simple relay 2/12 under the hood, this is the 'radio surpression' relay but on this car its also powering the ECU and stuff.

relay 2/23 pins:
* Pin 1, brown wire from fuse 1, provides power to the switch side
* Pin 3 - pink wire to power the fuel pumps
* Pin 2 - blue/yellow wire to coil, powered from a junction powered by relay 2/12
* pin 4 - yellow/black wire from ECU pin 30, grounded to turn on fuel relay

So I can just replace the pump relay on the panel (the one in my picture that is grey with the "K" drawn on it) with just a regular relay of the same type? That would be much easier (and cheaper). And I'll prolly just replace the one under the hood to be safe too.

the fuel pump relay 2/23 is shown with a diode across the coil. the 'radio suppression' relay under the hood is not. they are both SPST NO relays, for what thats worth, but there's a bunch of different ways such relays can be wired, so its best to get the right parts.

the firts thing *I* would do is unplug the relay, and jumper pins 1 and 3 in the socket and verify the fuel pumps come on.

Yeah I realized when I pulled the grey one and the car ran fine. Will the pump be a noticeable noise from the driver seat? When I turn the key to position II I don't hear any whining from the rear. I'm thinking maybe just replace the main in tank pump, maybe that's why it runs for a while then dies and won't restart for a while.

a good fuel pump is very quiet and hard to hear. I can barely hear it if I jumper it to always on when the engine and ventilation fans are off.

normally, when you turn the key on, it either doesn't run at all or just runs for 1-2 seconds then shuts off again until the engine is turning over, then it comes back on.

Is this version of relays just on the 1994 NAs? Are all Pulsairs like that?

according to the 94 book I looked at, that configuration was used for B200F, B230FB, B230F, B230FD, and B230G, but not B230FT turbo.

There's 4 editions of the 95 940 greenbook wiring diagrams on my DVD... ok, lets see... TP3908031 ('preliminary') shows the same 2/23 single relay, as does 3908032. 3908201 is also marked prelim, and shows this single relay. ditto the final TP3908202

Its NOT shown on the 1993 diagrams TP32208-1, they use the combo relay 2/13 on the B200F/G, B230F/FB/FD/G...

Now, the /only/ 1995's I've seen were turbo, even though they didn't /say/ turbo. but my sample size is pretty small.
